A couple of reasons. Its not great on gas, I would hate to park it in a lot and just have ignorant pricks open their doors into my car or park on the street and imagine that 21st Century Insurance commercial where the guy is just plowing into the bumpers trying to parallel park, I would probably always want the top down, and it will probably end up snowing and although its great for making doughnuts and powersliding everywhere it most likely wont go very far.
Don't get me wrong I do not think the SL is unreliable I just don't see it as an everyday car is all, especially if you have a family you won't be able to take more than one person.
Good points.
On my end, I think I would use it to commute to work; it's not like I am carrying passengers. I see it this way, we only live once; might as well make every moment count!
What do you think?

Of course if you want one and if it has to be the DD and you can handle the upkeep then go for it! I keep mine for cruising as the wifey has the newer car and I have my little Infiniti that I bought new in 1991 and has never let me down.
Anyway I am driving the work truck 80% of the time and although its a V8 lets just say it doesnt have the same kick as the SL :-P

Make every moment count.
I use it... daily.
Guys we are talking OLD cars.
Some are older then their drivers, wtf. Lol.
I was in the market for a 300E or E320 but I though about what I already have and that if I am going to use a car to go to work why have four seats? It's not like I have a board meeting in the car or carpool.
I am now considering a 300SL which I can work on or SL320 which worries me a little because of the harness issue.
