next step will be to scan the car, and see what component is the offending one...

I tried using the test light and counting flashes, I could not decifer the responses.

I can only count to 20 if I take off my shoes. That's why I got a scanner.

Being mine is a 91 and I maintain two 93 MB 300e, can you suggest a scanner to purchase? Brand name and where to buy it?

That depends on your budget.
The MB STAR SDS would be nice to have but cost an arm and a leg and then some.
Carsoft from Belgium would cost less, but is still into thousands.
Then there are Chinese Clones. But with clones you are pretty much on your own as there are absolutely no technical supports.

Some are stand alone system, others you install in your own computer.

To find them, do a Google search on diagnostic scanners and make sure they are MB specific.

I'am in NH with a 1990 500sl . do you have any pic of what you did? My top will
not go up so I would like to make it easy to do manually Thanks for your post
