Instruction how to replace heater core?

I had 1992 SL 500 with 145,000 miles on it and antifreeze keep leaking and take the car to the shop. The machine stated that is the heater core is leaking, no antifreez on the floor when part but slowing antifreeze is low. Does anyone has instruction or diagram how to replace the heater core? I took of the dash board but does not know how to take out the old heater core.

Thanks,
Uhenry1

You are very easily convinced.
To fast on the gun, to remove the dashboard.

Just because the machine said?
Do you see fog on your windshield water under the car or inside?
Any coolant smell in the cabin?

Replacing evaporator or and heater core is one of the last jobs that I will like to do.
Only and if it is necessary.

I would consider putting some sealer in the system before I touch it.
You may have a leak somewhere ells.
Look in the module compartment, there is a heater pump, heater valve, hoses and other goodies.

Last but not list look in the windshield reservoir there is a temperature control and element that many times leak.

Regards.

Expansion plugs

UHenry1

Check the expansion plugs at the rear of the engine. Mine were rusted and started to leak (suppose a previous owner used the wrong antifreeze). My car is a 1994 SL500 with 70,000 miles.

MB wanted to remove the engine to replace these. We mananged to remove them with engine in place and exhaust removed. You will just need to make some tools to remove the plugs.

Hi Aam,
There is no fog on your windshield water under the car or inside but after long drive and put carpet under the car, there is antifreeze. There is coolant smell in the in the car?
I checked the front passenger under the floor map and remove the floor map, it was wet.
I will double check it out before I start to remove the heater core. I will post if I find out more about the leak.

Thanks,
Uhenry1

I just to let u know that it was the heater core leak. I replace the heater core and everything is fine now. It's took almost two days to remove the heater core and replace with the new heater core. It's not that hard to remove the heater core becasue the screws are on the engine side and alot of clips to removed the plastic air ventilation to grand access to the heater core but took alot of time and got the job done.

thanks,

Did you have a step by step instruction manual when removing the dashboard? I think my heatercore is leaking. I've done all the pressure tests and checked everything under the hood. It's quite weird since coolant is not dropping neither misting up inside. But I can smell it inside the cabin when the heater is on.

Any special Tools?

Where did u get the heater core from. I was browsing the market and with shipping it's around $200 to $250.

Also is there anything else that I should replace while I have the dash board out.

Thanks in advance.
