A couple months ago, I installed a Renntech resonator bypass pipe on my wife's 2001 SL600. It increased the exhaust sound by about 15%. Another member here installed it on his SL500 and experienced about the same results.

I bet that exhaust looks and sounds great on your car. You have a very nice looking SL. I really like the color combination with those gorgeous wheels.

Back to the exhaust, I saw the resonator bypass on eBay and was rather low on funds to pay for something like that. Except right now if I see it ill snatch it up right away. I assume this rear AMG box already makes the car louder, and I'm just curious if without the resonator ill get a growl from the motor, not this "Fart Cannon Honda Sound"

 

On our car, it gave the car a bit more growl. It is most noticeable on start up. It sounds very pleasant. Absolutely no fart can sound at all. We will probably eventually add a sport exhaust (AMG or Renntech) to wake it up even more.

 

Have yur muffler guy build you your own resonator bypass u will love the sound and weight savings to boot. Not that expensive.


That thing is HEAVY.

 

How strongly do you recommend removing the resonator? On a straight 6?
