smoke from wheel arch area??

When i parked yesterday it was raining- some smoke came from the right hand wheel arch.It seemed to be coming from above-engine bay? leaking shock?(RHD car).And no smoke from left wheel arch.
Is this something obvious that I cant see- there is no obvious fluid leak- maybe some characteristic obvious to all of you but not to me failing in the SL?
Ideas please.

Most likly valve cover gasket.

i replaced those gaskets and my mechanic said i had done a good job-
anything else?

Are you missing splash shields, possible you hit a bit puddle and something hot got wet? Simple I know, but what the heck.

rechecked valve gasket and is bone dry- could ve been something hot that got wet, it was very wet that day- thank you
