Trunk strut question

My trunk struts have given up the ghost and I'm tired of holding the lid up with my shoulder while I get my bag out. I haven't check partsgeek.com yet to see what they run, but the question is whether they are particularly difficult to replace. I'm a fair shade tree, but I'm not interested in mucking around with some job that involves special tools and half a day.

Any experience replacing trunk struts that you'll share?

Thanks guys.

It was no big deal in either my 95 or 05 SL. You just need to support the trunk while replacing them.

Does having a ducktail spoiler make the trunk drop down alot? It looks like a heavy solid piece and Ive doubted if I get better struts it will make the difference I'm looking for?

I ordered a pair from Discount Auto Parts Online - Mercedes Parts, BMW Parts, Volvo Parts, Volkswagen Parts - PartsGeek.com New Auto Body Parts for $18.95 each, new OEM. I combined the order with some filters and wiper blades for both cars, and the shipping was $6.95 for the whole thing (it's a flat rate). I've used PartsGeek before, and they ship the same day and I usually have the stuff by ground in 3-4 business days.

Any chance of a step-by-step? Does the trim panel against the rear firewall pop off easily? It looks like a snap once that panel is off.

I'd appreciate some help.

Thanks.

I'd appreciate it. The struts will be here the first of the week. You can PM me if you don't want to post the directions on this thread--although it would find a place in the stickies at the top.

Thanks.
