Windscreen - New mesh?

I looked for threads about windscreens and all I found was pros & cons, Lexan vs mesh, but I have an OEM windscreen with the 'stand-up' screen mesh is missing. The frame is fine. Is there a kit? An aftermarket mesh replacement?

Heck, go to Home Depot and get a fine mesh & install that?

Is there a link to a mesh replacement?

On another note.... I was happy to see my soft top is in great condition!! ... The plastic windows are in pretty good shape, but is there a special 'restorer" to clean the plastic?

I am not aware of any mesh repair kit, so if you can get it done with Home Depot mesh, please post pictures and how it was done.

Plastic windows can be cleaned. I've use Meguiar's Plast-X cleaner polisher with good results, but there are other brands that works just as good.

I'm pretty good at detailing..... I've used that stuff.....

Figured I'd see if there was anything special.......

But plastic is plastic...... Don't use sand paper.

Too repair the screen you have to send it to the company Oris in Germany, the repair is $80.00 round trip shipping $160.00 so not really cheap.
No you can't replace it with Home Depot goods!
The best cleaner for the plastic windows you find at your friendly BMW dealer, the windows are like brand new later.

$240.00?.... NOT even an option!! I can buy whole nother one for around that!

It's just fabric mesh!! ( heck, the junk they use, tears just by looking at it)
There's a track to lay something like a rubber roping inside.

I've got thumbs & an index finger..... It can't be hard to make it look correct.

A 'fine/ filtering' mesh can be bought.

I'll let you know what I come up with, and it won't look "backyard".

This will be fun.

Thanks for letting me know about the "German way".....

Yes let me know how that is working out ,I had these discussions years ago with the 107 owners ,nobody ever was able to fix it right.
I also agree, it's a shame that Mercedes can't provide a service for that in the States.

There's no one in the states? I'm gonna make a call to a Fla. company that specializes in kits for headliners & sun visors.... Maybe if there is enough interest ( and maybe there is a lot of a popular style - like mine) , maybe they could make a kit.

Send us the link for that company in FL. I've got several interior parts that either need replacement or refurbishing, and finding a place that can handle that would be worth a lot.

Thanks.

I found a rare glass/screen company in Newport Beach that does not turn away a creative job.

Our first " prototype/test" shows a standard screen material. I wanted to see how it performed.
You know what? Not bad!! I'd say the effectiveness is about 75 percent of the super fine ( original) material. And you can see through it very well!

Next I am going to find what is called " no-see-ums" screen, that is finer, and is designed to block tiny flying creatures that you "don't see"...

It should block the wind even better.

I also will be finishing the area at the hinge, by careful cutting, masking for black RTV to make a nice trim at the cut screen, around the hinge, & it should hold tight.

Hi mountie55,
I've tried last year, calling many shops but they told me is a factory stamped item and would not look the same if they tried. However I have one for sale for $135.00 firm in excellent condition, no holes or tears, plus shipping what ever that may be or pick it up in the Pasadena, Ca. area.
