This shows the proper alignment of the piston and the microswitch.

Also make sure you actually reconnect all cylinders with micro-switches into their respective plugs when you reinstall them. Sounds stupid but it happens. This will also stop the close/open sequence in its tracks.

One other important thing to do after (and on a regular basis) rebuilding your cylinders. Mercedes recommends "Complex Grease" (part number 001 989 46 51) be applied to all sliding blocks (their words), meaning all locking points that hold the top or related covers down. Unfortunately this grease costs $90 a tub from MB. It's the same grease that is used for the sliding sunroofs. I went to the dealer and because I know them well, they greased all points for free. Believe me when I tell you it makes a huge difference in the operation of the locks. Instantly the noise level of the locking mechanisms was reduced and the locks engaged smooth as silk. They told me that using regular grease will not do the trick and I believe them. The Complex grease is extremely sticky and does not dissipate like normal grease does. Another good reason to have a good relationship with your dealers service department. I do not consider them "stealers" and during the last 29 years of owning Mercedes vehicles, I cannot tell you how many times they (two dealers - Miami and Fort Myers) have helped me because I've made good relationships with the service managers and service writers. Be safe.

Thanks for the SUN ROOF LUBE PASTE 0.58 kg, p/n 0019894651 at Parts.com it's $65.89 shipped.

Oh, I see it comes as 1.27 pounds. This would be great for a dealership to have on hand.

Lee, you were right on the money. I jumped the micro switch and the top worked (almost all the way) then removed the the jumper and and it finished. Of course this was the only switch that i did not check, figures. It would be a lot of help if this information was placed with the removal and install instructions for the cylinders.
Thanks to all for the help.

Used the car and put the top up and down for a couple of days until the cylinders showed up. Placed the cylinders back in the car, filled up the reservoir with fresh fluid and tried to put the top down. The windows and roll bar go down, the back part of the top unlocks and goes up but that's it. I manually put the top down and tried to put the top up with the controls, again the windows and roll bar went down, the cover unlocked and lifted to allow the top to go up but it stopped at this point.
Went through numerous threads and tried to disconnect the battery, re-sync the windows, tried to read the X11/4 with a light but only 16 of 38 sockets have pins. Ten sockets lite and 5 did not.
I think I am close but just missing something, any help would be helpful

Also, the roll bar and top switches lite when the key is set to #2 or on position then go out as they should (top up). But the top switch stays lite and the audible alarm goes off when you start to drive (top down) Thanks

How do you propose that your suggestion get implimented? Are you willing to volunteer to improve the RST hydraulic cylinder instructions that Dennis and others have worked at? Do you have technical writing capabilities? If so, we need your help.

Would you be willing to help in this capacity?

Hey Lynn,
Sure, I would like to give it a shot. Figure it's the least I could do for everyones help with my car. Have written plenty of SOP's so this should be interesting.
