Hi All:
After testing my seals for a few months now I can finally tell that they hold very well. I have a few leftover kits for the cylinders on top of the windshield, part number 129 800 1672. I can sell them for $32.50 a kit including shipping. The seals are made of
polyurethane to the exact size, so that you do not have to machine your cylinders. O-rings are
nitrile rubber. Just like OEM. Rebuilding takes only few minutes: remove the locking ring, pull rod/piston out, pull the rod out of the piston, replace the seal, replace the o-ring, put back together. I did the whole job in about 2-3 min. The only caution would be to protect the seal from the sharp edges of the rod (near the threaded end) by usual manner (wrapping something thin around or use fine file to dull the edges).
Please, email me to
tmmatr102@sneakemail.com if interested.
Hi All:
Since there is a significant interest in these seals, let me answer a few popular questions.
$32.50 is for one cylinder. You can order any number of kits you like, but I already have much more orders than I have kits. I will be ordering more kits to be manufactured.
The seals are NOT from MB shelf or something. They are made to my order fresh. The material is
polyurethane. Color is red on the batch I have now.
Tutorial to get the snap ring out, stick a small flat screwdriver in between the ring and the cylinder wall close the the ring tip. Push the screwdriver - the thing will compress and the screwdriver will go in! Than leverage the ring out. Do not loose the ring! Keeping the cylinder vertically helps to get the ring out. If you do it right, it takes few seconds! The rest is easier than replacing the spark plug.
There is a thread and a flat surface at the end of the rod. They can be sharp. You do not want to cut your new seal. Either wrap the end of the rod or use fine file. Just like with any other seal you install, for example crankshaft or camshaft seal.
It took me about 20 min to rebuild the first cylinder. 15 to find a trick to remove the snap ring and 5 to replace the seal and o-ring. The second was done in 5 min with a cup of coffee in my hand
I will also have 6 mm seals very soon if there is some interest in those too. I only have two 6mm kits left and will keep them for myself as my daughter just got a present to her upcoming 16th birthday. Guess what?
Hi guys:
I have set up a PayPal account to accept the payments for this cylinder seals. Please, send $32.50 for a kit for one cylinder, $65.00 for two cylinders. The address to send payments is
tmmatr102@sneakemail.com. Sorry, I can not accept credit or debit cards via paypal. Please, do not forget to include your shipping address.
If you are overseas or in Canada, please, add few dollars to the total to cover the additional shipping expenses.
Since there is a significal interest I am in the process of ordering more seals. I hope to get them by next Monday, but there is no guarantee. There maybe a delay of few days. I will ship the kits as soon as I get this batch.
Since most people have not seen the seals and ask questions, here is a picture of the seals and o-ring I have for the soft top. There are 12 seals total (some cars have only 11). Main top drive, windshield top lock, tonneau actuator and rear soft top actuator seals should be the same for all model years. The rest can be one of two different sizes. So, check your part #.
