Help! I can't open my Bonnet/Hood!!

Hi People.

I did 3000 km's in a week 2 weeks ago visiting my fiance's parents, and gave the car a good clean today because we have a club run tomorrow.

I took the grille off so it was easier to get all the bugs and grime off it.

The problem: I didn't slide the trigger to open the bonnet through it's little whole, so now it's stuck behind my grille and i can't open the bonnet!

Can anyone help?

I have tried pulling the mechanism through with wire etc, but there just isn't enough play in it.

I know this mechanism fairly well now since changing the grille on my 1993 SL500. The only way to release the bonnet is to pull the T shaped plastic lever forward.

If you have forgotten to put the lever through the Mercedes star, then the only option is lasso what you can see of the lever with strong wire or try to grip it with long point nosed pliers.

You will probably break the plastic lever but it will be the only way to open the bonnet.
I don't think a replacement would cost much, or someone might donate one to you as there must be lots floating around if they changed to the three bladed grille which needed a longer lever.
