Newbie here with a qusetion right off the bat. I have a '91 stock 500SL, and have just stumbled on a perfect set of AMG Aero II Monoblocks & Potenza RE750 tires locally. They are 17" and came off of an E class. I am still waiting for offset #s and more details off of them. I did a search and found the pdf chart with the offsets that should work on our cars. Anything else I sould be concerned with? This seems like a good deal for the wheels and tires, and they are local!
Thanks elau. Just talked with the seller. They are 17 x 7.5 ET 35. I am not seeing that listed on the chart I printed ;( Tires are 235 45 R17s. He did offer to meet at a shop and have them tested... I hope someone can tell me that i am missing something and they might fit???

I think SL OEM rims are 8Jx16 H2 ET-34 so ET35 should work. The tire shop should know for sure. So if the price is right go for it.
Make sure you have the correct lug bolts for it (the tire shop will know).
Yes, I believe so (have not laid eyes on them yet) very sharp! Are those 17s? I can get the set with tires (under 3k miles) for $800. I really hope they fit...

Yes, there 17's with Continental Sport 245/40/17 in the rear and 225/45/17 in the front. IMO, they look and feel like they came on the car new in 1992. I like them a lot as I think you will also.
I'll look for a better clos-up but these are a very popular wheel for the R129. If you search the forum, you'll see countless examples (pics) of this wheel combination.
Great! So the size that this seller has 17 x 7.5 ET 35 is the same as yours? If they fit I am going to snap them up tomorrow.
And yes, I agree, more agressive, but tastefull...

Do you have the contisport2's? I am thinking of putting a set on my 600 (if/when I ever get it back from my dad). The rear ps2's are getting worn out already, and Conti is running a helluva sale, like 20% off plus a free nav unit. How do you like them?

You know what Chris, I love the 'sports'. I saw the thread you started a few weeks ago about tire racks' sale. It's a hell of a deal but my tires are new. I actually considered buying a new set and stroring them in my shed, just to get the free navigation. I can't speak for any of the other models but I like Continentals so much, that I wouldn't put anything else on my SL. The 'sport' tire ride is firm but not obnoxious. They're great for high speeds on the highway and perfect for local driving around the city. As for rain, can't tell you...I don't drive the SL in the rain. I certainly have no problem recommending them. Oh, and there the ContiSportContact model.
