Will I find different information on the STAR TekInfo website than is on the Star Classic DVD? Is one better than the other? I am particularly interested in the repair procedures - what I believe is the WIS. There seems to be too much of a difference in price for it to be the same information.
For the R129 the Tech DVD, WIS, and www.startekinfo.com have essentially the same content. The latter two cover all Mercedes chassis introduced since 1982.
The schematics of the Tech DVD are much easier to read than those of the WIS, so this would be my choice for purchasing DVD-based information.
Thanks Bob, I saw a post from you on another topic about this but appreciate the additional input. I ordered it Friday and have it on the way. Total cost was $99.00 USD shipped. I think I'm going to replace my evaporator over Labor Day weekend - or at least get it started.
Here is another CD available from MB on the R129. Its listed as a technical training CD and has a different part number than the Star Classic Service manual I just ordered. Does anyone have this? Can anyone comment on its content?

I don't know, but they can't be very great. My WIS runs on an old Pentium III laptop.
To install WIS I go to the \wis\d2kinst folder and execute setup.exe. This is the "standalone" installation that has never given me problems. I have found no need to install a "loopback adapter" either.
maybe of interest to msmith66 - and certainly to me :^) - question for bobterry99 please. do you know what the system requirements are for the DVD?
(i am trying to install ML320 WIS ("WIS/ASRA net 04/2008" ) on windows XP with no luck. I have also XP on wife's laptop and windows 2000 on an old desktop but it does not have dvd reader). thx.
MSmith. I have this CD, but not direct from MB, but the pics of the index confirm it is the same one.
It is an excellent disk with lots of information to find out things about how the R129 Model works, but not the the level of helping service much. But it does have the dissasembly videos of all the interior panels, doors, consoles extl mirrors, etc and complete softop strip and replace.
I highly recommend it for what it does - I think it may have been a sales training aid, so you could wow people with its features in detail.
Does detail all the model motors, gearboxes, year differences. Lots of detail and hydraulic schematics and diagrams of the engine, gearbox operation, aircon logic, that I've not seen described so well for understanding by a lay person.
eg How to set the instruments into diagnosis mode, and how the aircon control knob changes completely when the top is down.
Greg
Note: the US DVD is not compatible with MAC and Vista 64 bit systems and is not sold outside of the US.
Try a shut down/restart on your computer with no disk in the DVD drive. After the PC settles down insert the DVD. Let it Autoload and you should then see an Accept or Decline. Accept and your good to go. It's that simple.
I did load it on a XP machine an it worked, but the packaging stated that it works with Vista. I also have a call into Mercedes. Will keep you all posted.
I purchased the STAR Classic DVD (P-2700-129-07), but the error message displayed in German. I translated the message so I could ask the question. I will try what lynns said, reboot and reload. I have Vista 32 bit Home premium sp1 edition. Will keep you posted.
No, the DVD that we are referring to is for a R129 SL series not a W211 E series. But it would not hurt to call M-B North America and ask them for the latest version of the 'STAR Service Manual Library, Model 211 on DVD' p/n for a W211.
Thanks for the feedback I did call MB and I ordered the DVD for the 211. Sounds like it will have all the information I need (I hope).
Thanks again!
