What the heck is this?!

Was walking away from my newly purchased 1998 SL500 and noticed some weird funnel thing I never saw before. I waxed the car the other day with the top off and could have sworn that I would have seen this. It is on both sides and is located right by the door pops I believe. It looks really blaaah...is there a way to cover it or something?

Sorry for the waterspots - after washing my car sometimes I just can't wait to put the top down

That's the receiver for one of the pins on the bottom of your hardtop ... the funnel shape makes sure that everything is aligned properly when the hydraulics start to do their thing.

Yup, hardtop guide pin hole. I suppose you could cut a piece of black plasitic to fit. If you have no hardtop, put a couple dabs of silicone sealent around it to hold the plastic in place. Or just live with them. We all do.

Geez, you Maine guys can be really obsessive/compulsive. I guess when your car gets locked away for months each year you've got to grab your quality time whenever you can, eh?

You can't afford the gas...?
At least you have some sort of lobby - we over here just lie back and ask our corrupt government chappies to scratch our tums! Nearly £1.20 per litre, or $2.50 and, to quote Johnny Cash, rising....!

Hi Guys,
Yep, you guys across the pond are so forunate...yesterday at a service station on the M1, near Derby, unleaded was nearly £1.26/Litre, thats around £5 a gallon, or nearly $10 per Gallon at current FX rates!! and diesel fuel is even more expensive

...worst thing is, as Hal Adams says, most of the price is tax!

Mark.

I was shocked yesterday when I filled up in Gibraltar, it's now 68pence per litre

Re. the hardtop latch entry points, if you don't like the look do as RoadKing suggests. I would go for stainless steel or Chromed brass covers.
