I'd be very happy with:

1. Seat only retracts.
2. Seat retracts all the way back (appreciating it will squash anything in the well) I'd be happy though if it stopped a few inches from back though.
3. Retraction definitely on key removal !
4. Seat moves forward to last known postion.

May want to consider a safety feature of stopping/canceling the backward movement of the seat by hitting a switch.

All the safety concerns can be addressed by simply using the #3 memory as the retract limit. You set the limit depending on your circumstances. I NEVER have anything behind the seats! I can set the #3 memory to go all the way back. If you let the family pet ride back there, you will probably want a little buffer room. You simply set the #3 key to stop "X" inches from the full back position.

The R230 has this. Maybe it's not essential to include it, but it seems like good engineering practice to have it. Unfortunately it adds a lot of complexity to the program and all but guarantees that it will initially have problems.

I'm not forgetting Hal, but a design for you that lacks the safety feature is finished, Mike. I was going to leave it to Hal and others to do testing, but since my neighbor's SL is like yours, I'm going to assemble a prototype in a day or two and do some tests.

Hey, that is great BobTerry!
Regarding the safety feature - if when the seat was travelling back and it did hit something, could you hit the forward button to reverse it, or would the program not recognise such an override?

Hal, the preliminary program that I have now does not see inputs from the seat switches. I did an experiment that anyone can duplicate and realize that the safety issue is taken care of already in Mike's case where the custom module simply presses memory buttons. What I did is I pressed a memory button to move the seat back; and as the seat was moving, I pushed the switch to move the seat forward. This cancelled the backward movement.

I really would be happy with a basic program/module that moved the seat all the way back BobTerry - I have been using my memory buttons the past few days with #1 programmed for wheel postion unchanged, and seat back and #3 to my driving postion - this is ideal, it allows easy access and ingress without scuffing the speaker cloth.

I just would never have anything of value in the well that could get crushed. Mind you, even a limit switch might not work, I cite a story from a 230 owner, who bought a new golf club, laid it in the back not thinking anything of it, came to use it and it was baanna shape!

When you were unsure of continuing with a module, I started my idea of a relay and time switch connected to the memory buttons, which will physically do the basic function, but it will be cumbersome and not as neat as your software controlled module.

So, if you are proceeding, please etll me when you have beta tested it !

Bob
I am interested in learning how you actually implement your solutions. Do you just design a separate parallel circuit and patch it across the memory switches to energize them or do you actually go inside the controller to manipulate the internal firmware/software ?

So if I were to go ahead and try installing memory in my non-memory car What would i need besides the following;
-New switches with memory for seats
-Control unit with memory
-comfort module

i understand everything related to the seat switches and control unit I believe, but where does the comfort module go and what connects to it..

The programs is de-bugged and working fine, but I'm having difficulty with the hardware. I'm needing more parts and have placed an order with Mouser Electronics - Electronic Component Distributor. Hopefully I'll have the parts by the end of the week.

Yes, exactly.

I believe you will need new seat control units and possibly new motors as well.

The comfort module is located with the relays in the main fuse box. The driver's door switch, the seat control modules, the Safety Package modules, and several fuses all connect to it.
