Do you mean the thin steel anti squeal shims ?
As Drags has pointed out these must only be placed between the brake pads and the hydraulic pistons located on both sides of the brake calliper.
OK to clarify I should have said I'm working on her Olds Bravada. Rear pads, the pads came with 2 "gaskets" 1 per side I figure. One side of the gasket is rough, the other smooth. I'm guessing it goes between the piston and the pad, with the rough side towards the pad. It was getting dark and I'm working in the driveway, ran inside and did some searches for information. found some GM forums, but didn't want to have to sign up to find an answer. Figured someone here might have an answer.
Thanks,
Tom
Are you sure that the rough side was not just a removeable piece of paper protecting the GLUE to hold the "gasket" to the pad???? On any brake jobs that I have done where you have to install the gasket or as I call them "shims" on the pads yourself, they stick to the backside of the pad. Good Luck!!!!!
