I have a 99 the front calipers are painted high gloss black how do I know if they are the Bimbos?
It was in 1999 that MB went with a larger rotor and black Brembo calipers on the front. In 2002 the Silver Arrow offered up silver Brembo calipers and slotted rotors.

Great advice and thanks for the address / contact. Mongkok is well known for it's Japanese car parts - great find for SL parts. Respect!
I'll definetly go and have a chat with Steve - the rotors were the trickest part for me given weight / shipping costs. Mind if I ask the cost? (feel free to PM me if you're not comfortable giving it out over the airwaves)
I found, and have been in touch, with the EBC dealer in Hong Kong (below) - he's 2 miles away from my new office location so I'm planning a face-to-face chat someday.

Hi Alan,
Steve charged for the front HK$ 440 each and the rears HK$280 each.
You may want to upgrade to stainless steel brake lines, thou I don't know if he has them, as I sourced mine here in Manila, the shop used Russell brand fittings and s.s.pipes for about P7,500 for the four, which is about HK$ 1363. It's expensive by US prices, but at least they're here already.
Steve carries also ATE DOT 4+ brake fluid, you will need them to flush out the old brake fluid.
HK$440 (US$56) and HK$280 (US$36): are these prices for the rotors or the pads. If it's the rotors they are cheap anywhere!!

I am thinking about it. Depends if they are totally plug & play. I use my car as a daily driver and live in the countryside so car tinkering has to be done by me or my mechanic when I'm away on business trips.
HK$1,363 (US$176) - that's not a bad price even for US rates - I've been thinking in the US$150 to US$200 range.

Thanks for that too - looks like Steve, myself and my credit card I will soon become acquainted.
If you happen to have come across any other info in HK feel free to let me know. I've found almost nothing. I travel to Australia (Sydney), China (Shenzhen, Shanghai, Beijing, Wuhan, Tianjin etc) every few months but never came across much of interest SL-wise.
Regards
Alan

The prices are for the rotors, Zimmerman cross drilled & ventilated...how could we go wrong? You might want to ask Steve if he caries the ATE High Performance Ceramic Disc Pads.
The stainless steel brake lines are plug and play... as I brought an original front and rear brake line to them and they made it in front of me!
As for other suppliers, there's Pyramid...they have a Brabus rear muffler for our R129 at HK10,000...didn't get it as I was trying to "communicate" to them that if they don't give it to me at the price I offered, they miught have to wait for another 10 years before they could sell it...cost of money and opportuinity lost! They also carry Bilstein shocks, H&R and Eibach Springs. Then there's Speedline for all you AMG needs.
If you know of other suppliers in HK, let me know. I asked my son to email Steve to let him know that you'd be calling re: Zimmerman. BTW, they don't accept credit cards...funny! But they are very reliable for MB parts and cheap!
Where's Pyramid? I'm actually not that bothered about the muffler change thing, but thanks for info.
Cheers
Alan

Thanks - I know Pyramid and Speedline - I just didn't know their official names. I also didn't know they did performance bits for the SL - in fact awhile back I asked Pyramid if they could get a few things (steering wheel, over mats etc) - they couldn't get anythign so I kinda gave up.
My father in law used to work for Zung Fu for about 25 years and one of founders is a family friend but they are just too expensive. For the more common parts I used:
