Mick makes a very valid point about cooling, it is enough of an issue with stock horsepower without adding an extra 200bhp!
If you don't need CATS to get you through an emission test definetely go without them, it will help your quest for power.
Stuart
The Wald bumper actually makes more room for the intercooler in front. I am also going to remove the AC. Then will get some more room in the engine bay and will not loose the hp you do with AC. As I said I live in north of the polar circle so the temperature here is newer above 75-80 degrees Fahrenheit so I don’t need the AC when I have a cab.
Yes I think I am going to remove the cats, I have removed the cats on all my cars. When the emission test come I only put the cat back on and then remove it again when it’s over.
2007 Toyota Landcruiser (orignal so far)
2000 Mercedes ML (Custom built)
1993 Mercedes SL600 (Will be restored and custom built during the next 6 months)
x 1996 Mercedes E-class
x 1998 Toyota Landcruiser
I am looking on headlights for the car. I can’t decide between these two. What do you think I should choose?
One more question. In the Wald bumper there is hole for fog lights. The fog lights that you are suppose to use on this bumper is the face lift fog lights from the SL. Can these lights be bought with clear glass so they match the headlights??
Hi,
happy to see my car , the first picture is my car. My headlights were built using a combination of Mercedes original Xenon clear glasses with a third party Xenon HID kit (6000K). As for quality of the light, it is the same as original Xenon (which I have on other cars), minus the automatic levelling. But if you can live without that, I recommend it. I think it look better than the MB original Xenon lights as well, if you like the clear-glass effect.
Regarding supercharging, I know a guy here in Sweden (supercharger69) who is really good at supercharging Mercedeses. Get in touch with him by registering at • Index, his nick is supercharger69. Check with him for recommendations. I also know that he can do the job for you, it'll probably cost somewhere between 10 and 20 K usd for 500+ hp. (but that's just what I think, better check with him)

Lasse, can you post the photos of your modified headlights.

I came up with that idea a while ago, for putting the HID lenses on the non-HID assemblies, and some people went to great lengths to say it would never work...in this thread...

Ok. I think the car looks great. I think this it the headlights I am going to have on my car. I have already bought the clear lenses for doing this from MBSCA. But now I can’t decide if I want to use these lights or buy me the regular xenon headlights. I can’t decide, one day I think I am going to use the lights you have and the other day I think I am going to buy the original xenon’s. I just can’t decide witch looks better.
I am already registered on MBSCA but I haven’t been on the forum for a long time.
Redliner, typhoontaz's set up is a supercharged one (although at quick glance you might assume it to be a turbo)
So the answer is yes, it can.
Borge, being that you have a tuner, it will definitely increase the possibilities of success.
I would try and consult typhoontaz and see what obstacles he has endured. The last I remember, he was pulling it all out because of technical issues he was having.
I don't want to dissuade you by this.
Maybe, taz didn't know too much of how these cars work, ran into some technical difficulty, and simply decided that taking it off was his safest bet.
Either way, good luck, and keep us posted
I know this thread is long dead but I feel I need to clear the air about why my car was down for repair. The supercharger had to be removed and rebuilt due to a piece of silicone hose being sucked into it at a rather high rpms of the supercharger. Needless to say the entire intercooler system (dual intercoolers)and intake system had to be removed. I have not had a chance to do much work to it until now. This was the first time in awhile that I have gotten on this forum. I do not know who did the original tuning, but this is the fastest and quickest vehicle I have ever owned. I have owned a 1993 GMC Typhoon, 1998 Corvette, 2000 Supercharged Corvette, 1973 Turbo Datsun 240Z, 1972 V-8 (327) Datsun 240Z and a 1974 V8 (350) Datsun 260Z. The only "issues" I have had with my SL was smogging it. Calif is strict. I also used to have the intake curve up towards the front with a smaller K&N filter. Where it is now is better as it sucks in more air. The extra heat it gets is negligible due to the dual intercoolers. Not sure if you continued with your supercharging, but good luck. Everything on my car was custom fabricated, so it wil take time.
