Yes there is. Same thing happened on my 1997 SL500. You have to remove the back plastic cover (can't remember if there are any screws involved), you'll see when you look @ it from the back. I remember that it was not difficult- 20-30 minutes tops and on a scale of 1 to 10 for difficulty, it is a 1 or a 2 to fix. Just be careful when you remove the cover, not to pull to hard because of the circuitry and wires. After you get it apart, carefully pull out the ciruit board. There is a nut on the inside which connects the mirror to the shaft, simply tighten the nut with a pilers/wrench. Hope this helps

Sorry to dredge up an old thread but my 97 SL500 mirror is loose too, so I took it apart today to do some exploring only to find my mirror is tight at the ball joint/shaft inside the mirror housing but the shaft into the header is loose. I can't figure out how to "get at" the mounting point or if it can even be tightened???
+1 My rearview mirror (1995 SL600) does a little dance every time I accelerate or brake. I'm going to take it apart over the next few days. Thanks for the info Oklahoma. Let's hope the nut is the problem. I would love a simple resolution for a change!
