ErikFinn is correct, once the original cylinders begin to leak in the rear of the car, the rest of the original cylinders will fail in a short time. The seals fail due to age, not mileage or amount of use. The windshield cylinders fail several years earlier due to the heat buildup in the windshield header.
I don't know which cylinder(s) tjobeid has leaking, but look all 10 cylinders in the rear of the car carefully for signs of leaking. My bet is that one of the cylinders that you didn't have repaired is leaking.
The above quote says it ALL. Everytime you put new cylinders in the system your going to blow another seal. You should send ALL of your unrepaired HC to Dennis Ficken. That way you will not continue having problems.
PS, Another thought? Since this is a 1995 has the engine wiring harness been replaced. I hate to say this but have you thought about trying to sell this car for cheap. I can't even imagine the frustration you must feel. Sorry..........
I dont think it has, the car drives great and looks even better , it get more attention then some of my friends nsx's some time becouse of how good it looks, but i did tell you before i am looking at a 99+, i found one for a good price with 30k on it , but its missing a few things such as , tow hook cover.200$, foglights $$$$$, and its not in good conditon , also found one that i like im going to let it set , its been around for 5 month i know it will go down . I agree with Lynn to repair the remaining cylinders. Whether you keep, sell, or trade your car sometime in the future, ANY potential buyer is going to want to test the top. If non-functional, you just reduced the value by thousands and buyers wonder, 'what else is wrong with this'; not to mention loss of your own personal enjoyment tooling around town with the top down.
I know it's easy to spend someone else's money, but if you otherwise really like your car, fix it. For the cost of getting a tow hook cover on the '99, you could also pay for 6 cylinders to be repaired-
OK welli got the problem, i am 100% positive of the problem . I had someone operate the top while i looked in the storage compatment and i found the leak . Its not that bad know , i will try to take pics and right a DYI for this one if i do it myslef which i think i will. Thank you guys for all the help . all those links helped.
Has anyone removed and replaced the small hydraulic cylinder shown in post #54 06-20-2007, 08:33 PM on this thread? The same cylinder failed on my 95SL today and I don't want to reinvent the wheel if any one has already replaced the same cylinder. I've read every post in the 129 top ultimate post but find no mention of how to R&R this one. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
I have repaired all my cylinders except the ones for the roll bar by Dennis. Luis and Dennis was a great help throughout the process. The lower large cylinders took the most time because of had to remove the storage compartment and the back panels. When removing the lower cylinder be careful not to drop the lower bolt in to the frame. I used the following video clip link (Tail) to help to remove storage compartment. If you interesting in changing the cylinders yourself I can send you the information that Luis sent to me. Send me an email. Doing it myself save me a lot of money.
Hi, i am from Venezuela. I will appreciate if you send me info on how can i get out the back hydraulic jack. Thanks.
