Seat belt stuck

The passengers side seat belt it stuck in. I cant get it to pull out. I more I mess with it the tighter it gets, it was working fine before that. I am going to take the seat apart. Will I need a new seat belt assembly or can I unwind it is this a common problem. It is so tight I cant move the headrest up or down and move the seat back.

Ok after taking the seat all apart I got it loose. Then it got stuck again. There is a cable coming from the button if I wiggle it and play with the button for a while it will come loose. But it is a little hard hooking the seatbelt in. I think I will stop by the dealer and look at getting a new seatbelt assembly. Has anyone ever replaced on before know the cost or part number. Thanks

Is this fault on the car you picked up yesterday? if so take it back for fixing and beat up the salesman for not checking the car prior to collection.

I fixed it. It worked when I left the dealer. And I gave my mom a ride and I worked. Someone must of dropped piece of a oatmeal bar in the button and it melted and hardened. When I used the seat belt it pushed it down and locked the cable so the seatbelt wouldn’t move. After taking the seat apart and finding the seatbelt was $400 for one half I took another look and saw the melted bar and cleaned it all out now its working good. But I had to spend $300 on a front license plate bracket so I can get the car inspected.

Too bad about the license plate bracket price. If you had more time, you could have found one from someone in this forum who doesn't use it, or online for a whole lot less. We don't need fronts in DE, but I use a deco plate instead of leaving it empty. Glad the belt works now.

Is there a child safety lock? My passenger seatbelt locks into place and won't let the passenger move once fastened. Release the belt and everything is fine. It seems to be connected to the fastening mechanism. Any ideas?

On my 1998 SL 500 there is a button on the lower side of the passenger seat on the door side of the seat that locks up the belt. It had been pushed thru the hole it was seated in and when I set it back in the hole and pushed it the seat belt worked again. Hope this helps
