I am looking at the best source for a new audio unit for an SL 320 1998. It is the upgraded model. The audio/Radio unit had it's display damaged so was taken out to be repaired, can't be so I need to know where I can source a unit and how much.
I am looking at buying this car so I'm trying to gauge the cost and hassle involved.
The purists might not like this answer, but my SL 320 had an Alpine radio/cd player in it when I bought it. I just switched to a tuner with Sat. radio in it. I have had Sirius in my pickup for 3 years and it is worth every payment.
However the car is in the shop for another problem, minor, and I can not wait to get it back. Hopefully tomorrow. Nothing like driving over 200 miles and never loosing a signal.
If you are in the States, it might be a better option.
I recently went through Becker America who took the control head unit from my "97 SL500 and replaced it with a fully functial unit. My complaint was a dead/dying display as well. Cost was about $150 plus shipping and took about 2 weeks.
They were great to deal with and the replacement works perfectly

Hi billfr I define myself a sort of purist but when it comes to radio units I cannot do without a radio that plays mp3s so that's why I have a Kenwood mp3s capable in my SL 320 and I personally LOVE it.
Especially love the possibility to use an CD RW full of mp3s and delete it to fill it again with new tracks
