I know there are alot of you out there who, at one point or another, have serched for carbon fiber parts, so I figured we can share our findings on this post.
I recently am on the hunt for anyone interested in making carbon fiber replacement body panels (hood, trunk, quarter panels, etc). I'm wanting to go lightweight cause I figure this will take alot of unwanted bulk weight off, thus quickening my acceleration.
Any help finding what I need would be greatly appreciated. But, like I said, why dont we post anything carbon fiber here with some links to help all us hunters out.
You know what? A friend of mine makes carbon fiber parts for the racing team he works for and I've been considering asking him to do something for the longest time. I think I will give him a call.
I've thought of that as well. Being that I have added a supercharger, sterio system and a bigger heavier braking system, I would like to offset the new weight somehow. The only thing I can think of, that wont cheapen my car, is carbon fiber replacement parts.
As far as weight distribution, I dont think its going to effect the distribution too much. So long as I change all the body panels. Although, I'm thinking of scrapping the whole project cause I'm getting prices that are absolutely preposterous making it not even worth it.
Tech,
What kind of prices are you being quoted? When my hood was replaced I want to say it was 800.00. I assume you are getting quotes for double that for the hood. Would you paint or not? With you car color it might look good unpainted. It would also let the world know if they want a taste they better have a big spoon! If I did change out I would keep the OEM parts safe. I am look into my crystal ball and see Tech's car a Stage III weight reduction. Under coating removed, all interior and trunk trim removed, electric windows removed, Perspex windows, CF Hard top w perspex glass, CF Hood and Trunk Lid, replace OEM seats with Sparco DTF Carbon Fiber seats, smaller gas tank, air cond/heater removed, and can't forget to take off the headlight wiper blades. Stage IIII remove soft top and all components, light weight alternator, pistons, water pump, and remove all hinges and weld doors shut.
Again snowed in and bored,
Chris

Chris,
Well, I am going to be giving my old hood over to my friend to see what he can do. I don't have any other spare R129 body parts, so it will begin there. We'll see what happens!
