sl500 cold start fine-short trip park restart rough idle hard start??

Thought I had this problem resolved.. I do not use the car often symptoms are as follows..

car runs great cold after sitting for a week or so. After I shut off the engine and restart within 10 -15 minutes car is hard to start and runs very rough. After about 10 minutes of this it clears up and runs fine anybody have this problem?/ The car will run fine the rest of the day no problems till i let it sit again for a week then the same thing all over again..???

cel is off never comes on and is working....

Read your manual.

Cold start turn key, do not depress gas pedal.
Warm start depress pedal half way, turn key.
Hot start depress all the way, turn key.

That should slove your problem.

I haven't read through my manual in MANY months, but as our cars are fuel injected, is there a need to depress the gas pedal in any circumstance?????

My old 1977 350sl was hard to start from warm and ran rough but only for 20seconds. my 1990 500Sl starts easily whether cold, warm or hot. i never depress the pedal. 10 minutes of rough running is too much for these cars i think. i would say something is wrong.

Sounds like a typical M119 ignition issue. Check both distributors for voltage tracking, plugs and points etc also HT leads.

Running the bosch platinum non resistor. Have not changed the ht leads yet or the wires my next move. Had it out this morning early running fine. It just amazes me how it can run so poorly and then run like nothing is wrong and clear itself up. In a way I wish it would justrun poorly all the time so I can resolve the problem. I will get back to you when I get to the bottom of this..

It is in the owners manual. I know it sounds strange with fuel injection, but it is clearly spelled out in the manual.

I recently read my 1993 500SL manual cover to cover and there is no mention of starting at different temps?
