I too have taken (1) apart and found the main culprit to be the inside "wiper ring". I have not been able to find a source for this ring. If you are still around, where did you find a source for this ring?
The "spring " clip which holds it all together I believe to be a fairly generic item which should be available from an automotive parts source.

Let's keep this thread alive! I've got two (2) of these cylinders I want to rebuild but first want to nail down exactly which rings or seals I need to have on hand before diving into these things. You'd think some genius would come up with a rebuild 'kit' with $5 worth of parts and sell 'em for $50!

I found this old post from 2004 at the MB DIY site. The spec's for the seals are in the post, and I ping'd Dennis to see if he's still rebuilding these things. FYI
Hi folks, I thought some of you may be interested that I've found a way to rebuild the top cylinders with the 6mm rods. I have just finished rebuilding the tonneau cover cylinders and I will be removing the rear latch cylinders tonight. (all of my cylinders are leaking)
The repair is fairly simple. The bad thing is that Mercedes used a bastard size piston rod seal that I haven't been able to find without being custom made. I did find a very close match at http://www.epm.com, but I did have to machine the cap that holds the seal from 13mm to 14mm. I'm a machinist so machining the cap wasn't a problem.
If anyone is interested I'll have some seals leftover ( $75 minimum order at epm!!!). I can either sell just the seal for $4 or if you send me your used cylinder I'll install the new seal, new o-ring on the seal cap, and polish the piston rod for $30 plus shipping. If there's enough interest I'll purchase more seals.
Next I'll be tackling the main top cylinders.
seal size is 6mm ID x 14mm OD x 5.7mm thick U-CUP Polyurethane Rod Seal

Would the same thing apply for 91 Sl500 Roadster? Also if you already have some cylinders done I'll trade you a Leaky one for a good one and pay you the $30.00 and you keep the leaky one to fix for someone else.
Sounds like a business idea to me?!
