I wanted to say thanks to everyone for posting various info and links here and sharing their knowledge and information on the SL.
I am still only in my first 10 days of ownership but without all of you people here I don't think I would have committed to keeping the car.
Because of you I get to drive a great car, have a few projects now and then that give me satisfaction for doing it on my own and enough knowledge not to get stung every time something crops up with the car.
In this room, there is a great cooperative energy of people looking out for one another instead of being victimized by some opportunistic mechanic.
I could hardly keep the smile off my face this morning when a salesman/mechanic was telling me that the hydraulic cylinders for the windshield pillar must be replaced in pairs as they are one piece sealed unit that requires a special 'reverse air bleeder'! Procedure.
Without you all I would have bit into that BS a week ago. With you, I'll be ordering a cylinder from Phil and doing it myself.
I'm in the same boat. I bought mine about 3 weeks ago. This site helped me out before I purchased and still does now.
P.S. I tried to read all the past post but am only up to page 40 with no end in site. There could be hundreds and pages and thousands of topics being discussed. Almost all are helpful, which is quite amazing.
We've been fortunate to own a dozen Benzes along with eight Corvettes and an assortment of other toys. Every day when I get out of my car in the garage at office, I find myself taking about a dozen steps, then turning to grab a last peek.
I hope it never stops being fun. And you're right, this forum has been a real education- notwithstanding the opportunity to meet enthusiasts across the globe! Many thanks.
