Immobilizer

Today I picked up by 500SL from the dealer. They installed an original MB immobilizer as part of the purchase. On the way back, I stopped for a cup of coffee on a highway inn and when I returned to the car, I could not unlock the immobilizer.

I called the mechanic that made the installation, but no way could the car be started, so I just returned home with my SL on the back of a truck from the local road assistance company. Not very dignifying and bloody annoying to say the least.

I have to have it transported back to the garage next week, but have any of you experienced a similar problem? I guess removing the power from the car altogether won't reset the system? Just being optimistic. I wanted to drive the car over the weekend, not leaving it crippled in the garage.

Thanks for any advice

Rgds

RE: Immobilizer

I believe it is the name for the original antitheft alarm with 3-way engine immobilizer. Cuts the power to the fuel pump, ignition and starter.

RE: Immobilizer

Cmdr,

Not sure if I can really help as my car has the stock MB system, and then an American Viper 550 system on top of that. So, when my car goes 'nuts' as it is want to do every now and then,I'm not too sure which system is the culprit.

Anyhow, I'm not sure that it is not just a 'timed' lock-out that clears itself automatically and eventually, but in my case I do get frustrated when it occurs.

My usual is to hit the 'lock' button and let it cycle. Then wait a few seconds and only hit the 'unlock' If it doesn't work, wait a minute as the on/off/on seems to also allow it to get confused.

There have been one or two occassions where the doors unlock, and when I turn the key to position 3(?) it's like there is no battery there. I sit there and do my lock, unlock routine and it seems to clear and work fine. I don't know if it is my sequence, or just a timer.

Like I said, I don't know how much of my 'goofies' is due to having the two different systems interlocked, but patience always wins out when it descides to get ornery.
