350 SL - can't open the engine trunk anymore!

It was becoming more and more difficult until it became impossible to open it, even after putting oil on the lock several times. Everything looks ok, including the inside command and the remote cable. Is this a common problem on these cars? Thanks !

What part is hard to operate? The cable pull or the secondary lock at the front of the engine "Hood"? If it's the cable, they can become contaminated or stretched out. There may be a way to adjust it if it's stretched too far. Please advise.
Steve

Re: 350 SL - can't open the engine trunk anymore!

Thanks for answering, Steve.
It's difficult to tell. The cable pull and the secondary lock seem OK when I operate them. But thinking about it now, I realize that I don't hear or feel"clic!" or "tchonk!" indicating the first unlocking when I pull the cable at the maximum (but should there be one normally? I don't remember). Therefore, it's likely that the cable is stretched out.
Thanks in adavance,
Mika

: What part is hard to operate? Have seem MB cables having an end fitting that spins, walking out the cable. If you can get to yours, this may do the job. Let us know when you get it open.

Re: 350 SL - can't open the engine trunk anymore!

It worked perfectly! The only illogical thing of this, is that you have to open the trunk first to have access to the cable end, and therefore set the tension right...2 friends were necessary to unlock the thing !!!
Thanks a lot Steve,

Mika
