Hi all, I wrote earlier to ask about an empty engine bay, now a question about the engine itself. Now that I have the engine on a stand, should I pull the front timing cover to replace the lower guides when I do the chain or is that asking for trouble? I am comfortable with the procedure for changing the timing chain with the engine in the car, but thought I might break things down further while I have good access. Not planning to pull the heads, but I do have to pull the oil pan as well.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Adam
Thanks Rowdie- It's a double row, and I have the new parts ready (incl the eye watering MB tensioner). I wasn't sure if I would lose anything around the distributor drive or oil pump when I removed the cover that would be difficult to refit. I will look into replacing the oil pump - any thoughts on MB vs aftermarket? I'm getting a serious case of the "you might as well".
Pump from MB, even dicount dealers, is more expensive than tensioner so it is up to you.
