New to me 1988 560SL!

Just picked up this beauty, 40k miles, original paint, excellent condition, from a local Mercedes guru. Only needs a new muffler and some minor cosmetic work... my philosophy here is preservation, where possible I will go with OEM parts when I perform replacements. (Biggest conundrum right now: right mirror glass is browning and needs a swap but finding a replacement is driving me nuts... new OEM doesn't exist at any price, all the used on eBay are questionable quality at outrageous cost, and the custom mirror glass websites don't list our car. Suggestions or offers?)

40k Miles ... nice find. I like the color too.
Does it run as well as it looks?

It does, lots of maintenance was done directly prior to my purchase. Drives like a cruise missile and built like a tank, I love the feel of this car. Definitely a counterpoint to my E63. Only possible issue is there is sometimes a "bird chirping" noise from the engine compartment when driving. My suspicion is some rotating component is loose or needs lubrication.

Beautiful car - well done! Have a look at the power steering reservoir; see if it contains red fluid (ATF). See if you can locate that chirping sound to the power steering pump below the reservoir.

Any part with a bearing is suspect. A/C and tensioner pulley, AIR pimp., alternator, PS pump, heater blower motor, even water pump.

Nice, very nice. My car's blower fan 'chirps' occasionally.

Yes. I have this issue from time to time too.. The blower fan can squeak or chirp when accelerating or cornering if the fan's circular blade unit is a bit loose. Harmless, but annoying.

Interesting. Since I'm taking it in for service soon anyways to replace muffer/door seals I'll see what the guys at the shop think about it. They must have encountered this issue many times.
