560Sl Footrest Panel in 450SL - space for an amp?

Hi,

As I restore my 450SL I'm also updating it.

As part of this I'm adding a small amplifier to boost the original (and now restored) radio.

I've noticed that the 560SL's seem to have a plastic 'foot rest panel' (1076840437) which (I think) provided a space to mount electronic equipment on the 560SL firewall, in front of the passenger (because it provides a couple of inches of extra space under the carpet). It's not totally clear to me where this fits, but it looks to me as if it is the 'vertical' part of the firewall, under the carpet under the glovebox.

I don't have a 560SL to compare to, so could anyone confirm:

a) I'm correct....
b) Do I need anything other than the panel (and screws) to fit it to a 450SL?
c) Is this where electronic equipment was fitted on the later cars?

Thanks in advance....

-Steve

You should have room for a small amp. My 380 had an old alarm system stuffed in there when I got it...which I promptly removed. In its place I put an EGR controller in there which was needed to run the tach (note that I'm running a Diesel engine in mine, hence the strange configuration). As long as your amp is smallish, you'll be fine.
