Yes last time I saw them they were under $2000 I believe on a German site. I also saw after market Euro 107 new headlight reflectors available. But nothing showing up today.
I bought mine directly from the Vietnam vendor. Send an email to ptt-jane@sgbumperscar.com and ask for a quote. I assume the eBay ad is from a reseller.
I bought the complete front and back set from a Vietnam vendor 9 months ago and installed them on my 1988 560SL. I had to do a bit of modification, being my first time, being the hardest in the assembly, must easier was the install in which the fit was perfect, but in the end I was very happy. Perhaps for you John, it would be a piece of cake to assemble and install. I paid around $1,500.00 for the front and rear which included the shipping
I bought my euro bumbers directly from Vietnam, very cost effective, indeed. They provided help with customs and taxes, at least here in Finland there exists some saving potential. I also asked and got compensation from seller because of poor inner part painting work.
The stainless surface is perfect, other sections and surfaces will need attention like bracket shape fine tuning, better painting quality and add rost protection. These tasks were much easier to me than any welding or other restoration work with used euro bumpers. These above are my personal opinions.
Many forum members gave lot of usefull help and tips to manage these relatively easy euro bumber fitting tasks. I had lot of time, my SL was sleeping over winter season.
The look is good, but I think I'll put the $2k towards replacing the AC compressor and converting to R134, new shocks and some other stuff. My 560 came over as a US spec car, and that's how it's likely going to stay.
After much deliberation have decided to pull the trigger and have paid a deposit....gulp! Was initially planning to keep the 560 original US spec, but having lived with the 'bench' for over a year now I can't help but want something more 'streamlined'!. Mine is a high miler so is never going to hit the stage, so have decided to bring it back to a Euro look.
Emailed Jane and she has been very helpful, and their shipping rates are very good (I have a good corporate rate with Fedex and they were able to match it). Will update when delivered.
I received my set from Vietnam a few weeks ago. Now I need to paint the rear valance pieces to match my car color (I think they ship them in black no matter the color of your car). I haven't inspected too closely but I thought the fog and indicator lights attached to the US bumper so I'm not sure where they go once I install the Euro bumper. Does anyone have any info on this?
Also need to work out a license plate mount for the new Euro bumper.
They have a good reputation in Europe. They also have the license plate bracket (look under the bumpers section), but they are of course for EU style plates.
You can fabricate new fog lamps brackets yourself, of course, but when investing so much money and work into Euro bumpers I think you should have correct foglamp brackets to go with. You can re-use the glass and chrome surround.
I would strongly recommend that you treat the back of the valances with a good rust protectant / under body protectant. They will accumulate dirt over time.
Cheers
