Can somebody please explain to me why my 1989 560sl cruise control only works reliably when outside temp is above 60 deg? Is it the ampliphier? And if so where is it located?
Almost certainly bad capicators on the board. You can attempt to replace them yourself or send the card out for repair - which is recommended as cold solder joints are also a known problem. I attempted a fix and failed so sent it out and it's been great for over a year. The box is behind the drivers side dash and is a bear to get to. I recommend just leaving the box in place and bending the retaining tabs a bit and sliding the board out.
Make sure you get the number of the amp so you get the correct one. Replaced mine about 6 months ago with a rebuilt unit from AutohausAZ. Ran about $225 but was a refundable core charge.
Was told that 95% of all cruse control problems are the amp.
JamesDean has fixed two of my amps and I can highly recommend him. 99% certainly your amp.
