Have been looking for a while now and can't seem to find a used one. Looking for the wife for a Christmas present. Can someone check out this link and tell me if these would fit my wife's 1980 450 SL?
I know, I know - expensive as hell :eek - but the wife is worth it!
Somewhere in the R107 run there was a change in spline shaft diameter and in fastening with an Allen head countersunk bolt instead of a nut. Do careful research on this before committing.
Used Nardi wheels are generally available on ebay. There is also a Japanese company that specializes in refurbishment of Nardi wheels and sells them via ebay.
Photo is my 1988 560SL. The classic wooden Nardi wheel just feels great in your hands. This one was an ebay purchase. I also have one on my 300CD.
Thanks for the info guys. I think I'll try calling the MB Classic center on Monday and check with them about spline shafts and attachments. Hope they can set my mind at ease about this very expensive purchase. Also Rocky - do you remember the name of the Japanese co.? Did not see anything on EBay that looked like it came from such a co.
The bolt started with chassis number 058372 Federal and 058397 California. Easy enough to verify. Just pop out the emblem in the center of steering wheel and look.
Again thanks Rowdie - Popped out the emblem and found the allen bolt and also checked the data card (original) and have chassis number 065699. Now to decide.....
One more thing, depending on your wife's height, a 360mm Nardi wheel (the most popular size) will obscure a portion of the top of your instrument panel. Worth it in my opinion.
