I am picking up my first ever Benz this Saturday and will be putting it on an auto trailer. Will I be able to fit the hardtop in the back of my Honda Pilot. I can't put it on the car as I will not have anyone with me when picking it up.
Anyone know the dimensions of the hardtop?
Thanks
I would find another guy to help put the hard top on your Benz. Find someone who can lift and maybe offer them beer money. Its worth it. (Maybe your seller will install the top before you take delivery?)
If your hard top flies off the Honda you will be looking in the mirror for a long time and calling yourself a dumb ass. And it can be a costly mistake.
I'm picky and based on many life experiences... believe in Murphy's Law. But, hey... that's me. Maybe you can make it work for you.
Thanks for the response.
Owner is an older woman who will not be able to put the top on herself before I get there.
Also I am wondering if the hard top will fit inside my Pilot SUV not on top of it
Don't attempt it. Bring another person. Unless you are getting a hardtop that is trashed with the car you will regret it. IMO. Installing/removing one of these requires 2 people unless you have a hoist. The hardtops are best stored with a cradle designed for them.
Agreed. Even if the hardtop would fit in back weight is approx. 90 lbs. Really bulky piece and even you bench 300lbs (hey don't know you) very good chance you'd get some damage carrying the hardtop in back of a SUV. More damage has been done to R107s by owners trying to move a hardtop alone.
As far as size width approx. 59 ". Length approx. 59" Height approx. 21" (including side latch pins). Web search shows your Pilot rear between rear armrests/wheel wells in cargo area: 45 to 45.5". So will not fit in any case.
You didn't give any details as to condition of your new prize but in most cases the hardtop has been stored in a corner someplace and is in much better shape than the car itself. The chrome edges are easy to damage and you don't even what to try and restore one.
You'd be much better off finding someone to help you put the hardtop on the car and transport it that way. Not in your area but maybe if you did a separate post here to see if anyone reading could help or maybe current owner knows of a neighborhood teen that can assist?
Pics when you get them....Think you'll find this forum a great source of info in any case. Best of luck! Hope it all works out with your new R107!
Around here large groups of guys hang out around the big box stores looking for gigs. If they do the same in your area that would be a way to get some help quick and cheap.
Depending on the individual, these tops can not only be heavy for one person to lift, but they're larger than you think and can also be awkward and clumsy to manage, whether you're putting them on the car, taking them off, or trying to jam them in your Pilot. Get some help!!
They other one has been closed. There were too many posts to merge the two.
