Dismantling a wing mirror, its a long story

Evening All,

In need if some help please and I haven't been able find out the answer in this forum, and I have looked.

I purchased a mirror ($60USD + postage) that works great when I sit in the passengers seat, unfortunately I find it near impossible to reach the pedals from the passenger seat.

In Australia these days we are allowed to drive left hand drive cars but they do expect the steering wheel to be on the left with the driver.

Anyway I would like to pull the mirror apart and see I can work out how to change its angle and would appreciate some help before starting its destruction.

Thanks for any feedback.

Marc

Do you have a manual?
There is a freebie available for download in the "sticky" section up above the threads.I believe it tells you how to adjust it.(I've not had to)

I get confused easily...... are you rhd or lhd and which mirror- electric or manual?

By the way, it's better if you include your model details in your profile, particularly if you are LHD.

Aussiemerc,

Sorry for the confusion 74 450 slc, rhd. Now with a US passenger side external mirror. My car never had a passenger mirror and i found it impossible to find 1 local hence l purchased one from the US. After installing i needed to be sitting in the passenger chair to use the mirror.

thanks for your reply l will download the manual.

I know they can be pulled apart but I'm not sure how much adjustment is available. Maybe search "replacing door rear view mirror glass" or something like that- I've seen a few threads but it was a year or two ago.

BTW are you aware of the various sources in OZ for MB parts?

The mirror glass just pulls out of the mirror and snaps in. The mirrors themselves are not designed to fold, ask me how I know that., so I do not think they can be adjusted all that much. I think you will need to find a RHD mirror.

Smile Thanks JN74SL and Aussiemerc

Thanks Gentlemen the assistance is appreciated

After spending the evening U-tubing watching most of the mirrors simply being pulled at I will be doing same tomorrow. If I cant work out how to change the angle I will be looking for a RHD Mirror.

Lesson learned.

Regards,
Marc

The passenger mirror on mine is electric, with a toggle switch in the console behind the gear selector. Don't know if the earlier models had manual ones like the driver side but presumably your US one is electric?

If you didn't have the LH mirror, then my guess is your 74 has the 'small' mirrors.

they are electric on the passenger side, but the mirrors are different for LHD & RHD.

The later 'large' mirrors are easier to obtain, naturally, but they don't look as nice on an SLC.

my 72 didn't have the LH mirror. you get used to not having it. The rearview mirror is sufficiently big and visibility is good as there is no B pillar.

AFAIK no 107 had electrically adjusted out side mirrors until the 1983 model year.
