R107 Transmission seepage

A bit stuck with a continual seepage issue.

My 1989 560sl is parked 10 months the year in a heated garage with cover on it and battery conditioner attached. Gets started every month.

I have had it into my local "specialist" twice now for a transmission leak and yet it still leaks.

My advisor is telling me it is due to lack of use. Is this logical? Or ought I find another specialist?

Photo attached. This is the amount of fluid leaking since parking the car in October.

Any thoughts really appreciated.

Kind regards,

Richard.

Hi. He's right - things seep when they sit, particularly transmissions. The seals can shrink up a little from sitting...warm ATF keeps the seals swollen with use. Sometimes it will go away with use.

If not, and if you're not opposed to additives, something like Lucas Oil Transmission fix can help re-swell the seals until your next service.

Sounds right. Cars are meant to be driven.

A 30 year old car with 20,000 miles on it would scare me more than if it had 150,000 miles on it.

More driving will seal that trani up.

Besides....the drops of oil in your pic.....that's just a apprentice leak. :)
