Filled it. Smelled gas on the way home. Seepage from filler cap. Opened. Gas gurgled out.

1. I topped off when at gas station. Was this my mistake? Or do I have another problem?

2. My overflow drain handled some of the spillage. But I noticed some gas in the trunk under the lock pump. Is this just a hose that I can replace, or is this more complicated?

Thanks for helping me keep Shultz on the road!

In the summer time the cool gasoline expands when it gets into the tank and warms. Top it up only if you are getting back in the interstate where you will burn it as fast as it expands. Otherwise, 3/4ths does it.

If there is overflow, it goes down a drain tube from the filler cap to the right rear area. Sounds like your overflow drain is messed up. Take it out and drive it, to air out the trunk and then investigate, should be a pretty easy fix. Perhaps your venting system needs attention, too.
