interest in performance parts?

I had originally started a thread over in the 126 forum and was suggested there might be interest here also. Some parts will interchange but other are model specific. Personally I am looking to build a C107 as a demo car for our parts, so somethings will come out of it.

Some of the items of interest:

- repop Pentas 17x8
- manual conversions (TKO and T56)
- sway bars
- springs
- headers and exhaust
- efi conversions
- motor parts: big bore kits (piston, rods, sleves), ARP head bolts, cams, valve springs, ect.

Let me know what is of need, as I am new to the R/C107 cars.

I would be interested in a performance exhaust system (including headers) for the 560sl. Seems there is a problem with the location of the steering box (driver's side...US model) that prevents it from being done. Solve that one and you'll make some sales.

If you could do any of those things I think you might generate a fair bit of interest. Seems like lots of guys show up looking for performance mods and go away because their isn't anything. A decent exhaust system that isn't a fart can hoopdie system is of interest. Suspension parts to tame the famous 107 acceleration squat would be good. Lots of guys would love headers, but alas, same old issue with room. As the DJET parts become harder and harder to get, a plug and play EFI system will be an important addition. If you can pull any of that off, you might have a winner.
The it's on the numbers game. These car's aren't like a small block chevy with millions in production. Could you sell enough to cover the R&D and tooling costs, make a buck and have the parts be affordable ? I guess that's the $64,000 question. Once in a while a thread just like this pops up. There is a bunch of thrashing around, then nothing. Heck we even have a member that was on the cusp of producing a quality exhaust system and like Jimmy Hoffa, he disappeared !
As you can see, there is mad love for the 107's. Most of us goofs spend WAY TOO MUCH MONEY on them. As the voice said: Build it and they will come !

all good points, thanks for posting. I have been slow at starting a thread for this very reason, there is always talk of parts but nothing ever happens. I started working on this first of last summer, with some input from Jono. Finally getting to a point where it looks like things might actually come together.

As for the headers, seems that all Benz have the same problem. I ran in to this on the 126, and have spend a good ten hours and 6~7 configurations on the DS before I got anywhere useful. here is one of the models from the thought process. I'll post some pictures of the new plan later today. It is basically going to be a multipiece header for the DS and a one piece for the DS.

here is the thread from the 126 forum: http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w126...arts-126s.html

All that being said, I need to get a C107 so I have something to build from. What are the popular motors for these cars, 450s?

They only come in 3 flavors. M110 I6, M116 3.5 and M117 4.5. Unless you want to find a 450SLC 5.0 or 500SLC. Most readily available is the US 450SLC M117.985.

Let us not forget the 'massive' 560sl!!!

I would be interested in performance options for my car, especially a 5 speed manual with headers and perf exhaust!! Would need a pedal set for the clutch pedal.

I would imagine that there are many owners on here that might be interested in something, even if it's not 'performance', just to personalize their rides.

Of course, price and measured performance are always relevant when deciding how much to part with for your ride, so you would be required to prove the performance upgrade, especially on this board.

That's OK. 1981 380SLC was pretty forgettable.
