Hinge Cover Part Numbers...

Just started work on the '79 450 SL I had shipped from Florida. All the covers are off..except the top one on the drivers seat. In the trunk is a box of them. Some are used..some new..I understand that there is a difference in the covers from 450 to 560, etc. Where can I get a list of the correct #s for the 450 ?..thanks..jv

Probably by subscribing to MB's EPC...their parts catalog. You will need a credit card but there is no charge.

The covers for your '79 450 SL are as follows:-

Seat Hinge Cover Left OR Right Seat Left Lower (2 Per Car) Part Number: 107 913 13 28

Right Lower Part Number: 107 913 14 28

Seat Hinge Cover Left Upper, driver seat. Part Number: 107 913 05 28

Seat Hinge Cover Right Upper, either seat. Part Number: 107 913 04 28

Hope it helps.

Why hasn't some enterprising individual cast those cheap ass hyundai plastic pieces of crap in metal, plated and polished? Those things have vexed me for 30 years! One of you hotshots must have a foundry or a CNC machine center that can whip those out of billet ! Let's get after this one

The only trouble with doing that is that sooner or later some kid is going to have them anodized in some putrid color/pattern and give them to his Dad as a gift. You'll HAVE to use them, admit it. Think of it; a triple Black AMG with hot pink faux carbon fiber hinge guards. =:-0

Anyone that has been infected with teenagers knows what I'm talking about.

Well, they hold up amazingly well after a quarter century...I'd feel a lot better about them being made of metal if they were screwed down!

There are better plastics these days, and the chrome plating on plastics is MUCH better than it was 25 years ago. I wouldn't feel bad about paying $40 for plastic bits if they were GOOD plastic bits.

The chrome grill strip on the front of my wife's Hyundai is this kind of modern plastic, and I wondered how it would hold up against rocks, debris, salt, and so on. Three years, 22K miles and outdoors, there isn't a mark on it.

Been sorting through the covers that came with my car. Seems I'm missing one..SO..checking around the parts suppliers...I find that the hinge covers for 1979 450SL are VIN specific..The '79 application stops at 12-042309 VIN. Naturally mine is higher..and the parts guys are baffled. I wonder if a seat change was made late in the year..and may use 560 parts for the covers ??..

Don't waste time with parts guys. Consult the EPC or contact Tom at the Classic Center.
