Here is a pic of a part on my 1983 500 SL. Anybody know what it is?

It's the part attached to the cross member in front of the radiator with the rusty bracket.

That is not a stock MB bracket. Beyond that I have no idea.

Looks like a cruise control unit.

I thought the same thing, but I don't see a control for it. There is some obscure control mounted by the window and heated seat switches. Maybe that is it. Still not sure though.

I will do this tomorrow morning and let you know where it goes to... Never seen this before, but I am pretty sure that it is for the cruise control... We will see.

Definitely an AFTERMARKET cruise control.

I bet if you follow the cable coming out of it you find it hooked to throttle linkage somewhere. The two hoses are vacuum control lines.

You are right, it is for cruise control. I have a switch that is by the window switches(aftermarket) that must be the control for it. It's a two way switch, either "on" or "off".
