87 560SL Blower - advice please?

The blower for heat and air is not working. The blower was replaced with a used one but it did not work either. When the blower was working I did have air and heat but it has been a couple of years since the blower stopped working. I have read the numerous posts and threads concerning this problem and would like to know what is the first thing you would do to tackle this problem. I am sure I read something when I first joined the forum about "if the AC clutch turns when the motor is running" but can't seem to find that now.

I did purchase all new fuses and when I went to replace them I saw that the fuse for the blower unit was "blue" (should have been red). It still did not work after replacing the fuse.

I thought about starting with the original blower unit and following the posts to test or repair it. Or should I start with the "electronic switching unit for the blower control. Or should I pull the "push button unit" from the dash and check it. That "Kilma relay tutorial" is far beyond my abilities. Is there a tutorial posted for pulling the the "push button unit" from the dash?

I am a total novice at this so I can only attempt some rather simple tasks but do have someone who can handle more but I'd like to try a few things on my own.

All suggestions and advice will be greatly appreciated.

SWMBO - but no one seems to know it!

After fuses, the next thing I'd do is open the blower compartment under the hood, unplug the blower and jump it with 12 volts from the battery. You could have a bad fan motor. If it runs with no hesitation, check the speed resistor pack. Check for voltage at the fan plug side of that at various settings. Generally you can get full voltage at fast as that's not thru a resistor. Missing lower speeds are resistors. Then again could be the switch. You can pull that and make sure you have power in and out !

Mine was a combination of all the above.

I had a corroded fuse, but it LOOKED just fine. Emory cloth sand paper fixed that.

Then I had a bad fan switch that would not make contact on speed 4 (High). I took it apart and bent the little brass contactor up small bit, and it started working on High.

This is all AFTER I put in a used blower assembly from Ebay.

Mine had been so hot (caused from the rats nest that had the fan blades stopped) that the plastic housing had MELTED, and the motor actually dropped due to weight and gravity about an inch.
