Rattle / Knock in the rear end 85 380SL

I finally discovered the source of the noise coming from underneath the rear of my car at low speeds while traveling over uneven ground. The rear sway bar/torsion bar is not connected to anything on the passenger side of the car at the end near the tire. The drivers side seems to be connected to a verticle rod coming off of the top of the axle but it slides freely with up and down movement. I dont think this is supposed to do this.
I have misplaced my repair manual, but would appreciate any help in determining if the right side end of the torsion bar should be connected to a verticle bar the same as the left side is. I haven't had time to jack up the car at this point but i think i am missing a part or something has broken off.

There is a stabilizer/sway bar link on both sides. Not not rare for one to break or the rubber to wear out..

Thanks Rowdie. it must be broken since it is not there ... would you know if this part is available without going through a dealership?

They are not OEM so I am not sure of the quality. You should replace both. If you order over $50.00 shipping is free.

For some reason the link does not get you to the part. Try searching the site.

After having numerous w114's, I could never work out where the sway bar links were on the W107's I've owned.

Now I know, they were only on North American cars...

Life is too short for bad wine or bad cinema.
