Why the hell is my car slower when I hit the kickdown button?

It doesn't only not downshift at all, but it actually is slower when I hit it. Any thoughts? Button and Solenoid are good.

Did you check the oil recently?

All the fluids are good.. Could be the wire not making contact to the solenoid.. Will jack the car up this week and pull the solenoid out and have someone hit the button to see if it clicks... The linkage is all good, and I can change the dynamics of the throttle by changing the Bowden rod thing, so I know it's working. Is there a kickdown relay? I know on the 126's it's controlled by the fuel pump relay and it does other things like make the fuel pumps run constant...

Thanks everyone for your help so far.
