-20F today.

Are you kidding me??

I keep my beer in the garage in the winter. Usually a good idea. Today.....well let's just say I will remain thirsty for at least another 45 minutes.

It's a frickin heatwave here in the Vancouver Wa area. 34 degrees! If that blowfish Gore is right, I hope the global warming caused by all his hot air and the exhaust of his private jet Hurries the hell up and warms this fricking place up ! I can't believe you guys north of the border ! You are tough bastards !

We had that system through here last week. It really seperated the prepared from the clueless. For Phoenix, 25 F is rare; it got down to 21 F. Only a few hardware stores even knew what heat-tape was, much less had any in stock (but not for long). I even sort of gave a coffee-break lecture on the finer points of heat tape installation and alternative uses. No one had heard about wrapping the battery in the car so it would be nice and toasty in the morning. There was even a guy at the next table in the cafe taking notes.

The worst part was that the next day, the cold that my kid brought home decided to go off all over me. I spent half the time trying to hack up a lung or two. The other half was spent hoping for a nice merciful meteor strike. I'm better now, but SWMBO was the next victim on the list. At least she has a nice warm cat for sympathy. Or laugh at her. You never really know with cats.

Then I won't tell you what it's like this week.

Although the summers can be pretty brutal. The joke is: Thank god for the heat, otherwise the snowbirds would be here all year.

Q: Can you really fry an egg on the sidewalk?
A: Not without a food handler's card and a restaraunt permit.
