First impression is that car is in good condition. Somebody took care of it.
No rust.
Driver seat is not nice. Seat springs looks ok but seating is not comfortable I was expecting.
Soft top is in bad condition.
Paint is excellent.
Chrome nice condition.
Seats need new covers..
Dash in bad condition. Thinking about plastic cover.
Door covers nice, mats are in good condition.
Drives well, shifts nicely. Steering should be checked.
Chain not yet checked.
Few more pictures:
Your impression? That's my first attempt to make nice things to live longer.
Most likely needs a steering coupler and inspect the front end. Seats not a big deal the ones in my 560 feel quite nice maybe swap the out. Looks like a good driver. soft top not too bad if you can do the install yourself. Too bad about the dash, but I guess a cap does a good job.
It "appears" nice enough, and if it really has no rust, it could be worth fixing. If the engine runs, trans works and it drives, then start assesing what it would take to make it agreeable to you as a driver. If it has been maintained, '85 380SL's are decent cars with reasonable fuel economy, and fun to cruise around with the top down. Keep us posted- thanks for photos, and fill out your profile. That will help others here help you.
This is winter where buddy? This is a pic of my 107 that iam restoring and it is a twin to your 107. were about to get blasted here in mich with 2 feet of snow and i see you have snow to.
"where there" is Latvia (Europe). My W107 traveled across 1/2 of globe. San Jose - New Jersey - Riga (Latvia). I've upgraded my profile. I'm ready to give you more information just ask and I'll.
The guy is in Latvia (eastern Europe). I suspect that labor is cheap enough to where you can make this a nice driver for not a lot of money. It looks like a good foundation for one.
Yes and snow. We have metric snow here and it was 60 cm in Dec, but last weeks are warmer so it dropped to 30 cm. 60 cm = 2 feet. So rwa73! Our cars are similar and snow condition as well.
Just judging from the pictures, it looks like it was well taken care of, but needs some work. Again, just going from the pics, looks like with some work you could make this quite a nice car.
Yes I can. Goods above 150 USD goes thought customs and I should pay VAT and some more taxes. Latvia is member of European Union. Customs are more or less same as in rest of Europe. Better to buy and sell within EU.
Hallo, nice car, do some work and if you do not like to drive it, sell it to Sweden, Finland or Germany and you will make some money for sure! This steel blue color is very popular in Europe now, i know it, i have the same! Judy
Looks way too good to me to part out ( we just bought an '85 380SL , too), but it all depends on what you paid for it compared to what the parts are worth in Latvia. The issues you have identified are really pretty minor and to be expected in a car of that age.
Check on the timing chain, flex discs and subframe condition before you drive it seriously.
It's presently indisposed....still haven't finished the timing chain install ( have the guides done, sprockets, the tensioner/rail- just need to wind the chain in).
Got interrupted by raccoons (yeah, big problem) and septic tank repairs (also big problem and dishwasher now kaput .
This is a replacement car for SWMBO, so I want to get it sorted as she will be driving it daily and I can't afford any downtime later.
It's really not sitting in a place currently that would enhance its (10 foot ) beauty...but I promise pix once it has been dusted off , washed and waxed (but NOT by me).
Riga, birthplace of Aaron Nimzovich, famous for hemp and timber, the White Nights of summer. Enjoy a Rigas Stiprais while admiring your new Benz and planning its future!
Welcome! You have my address (10 km radius) and you know my car. Seems that it will be "the one" here in Riga. Local MbClub said that there are not much w107 left. They better like Euro model and better R107. They said that US car is ugly, with heavy bumpers and I should sell it into parts as soon as possible. They advised me to change bumpers as soon as possible. Strangely my friends and neighbors said vice versa.
I think that you answered your own question. Of the W107's they prefer the roadster to the coupe (and the euro versions to the US by the sounds of it).
