560sl auxiliary fan

Ok, my auxiliary fan is dead on my 87 560sl... I thought I could pull it out the front but it won't fit. Can anyone tell me how to get it out? Thanks!

What makes you certain it is dead? So many thing are connected to the operation of it. I will check in the AM but it should come out the front.

My mechanic checked it out for me and told me everything was good to the fan. I can get the parts cheaper than he can so I told him not to fix it. I got the fan and want to put it in myself, but im not sure how to get access to swap them out. my GTO was easier to work on. I could just crawl up in there and work..... things are tighter with German engineering!

I went out and looked at my 560 and now have a better understanding of the situation. It does appear it has to come out the front. It can't come out the bottom. They welded the bracket to the cross piece. The plastic cover does come off the top half of the fan assembly. Clipped in three places. The upper brackets are bolted in. Maybe if you removed these things the fan and blades could slip out. The only other thing I could see is removing the fan from the fan motor, then removing the motor. Man did they make it tight in there for such a simple item.

It looks like it will come out that way. I pulled the cross member unhooked the fan and there is no way it will come out that way... i have not tried pulling the fan apart but it just doesn't seem like they would make you pull it apart to install it. Man I'm hoping i don't have to move the radiator!!!!
