Yep, apparently my SLC's engine is full of holes. The cams are rusty, valve covers have water under them, cylinders have water in them. Although it runs fine now (somehow), the heads probably look like Swiss cheese and won't continue doing so for very long. The guy at the shop said it's beyond a headgasket problem and I don't think I'd be willing to dive into headgaskets at this point anyway. He recommended finding a used engine but it's not worth it given the condition of the rest of the car. It needs a suspension rebuild and a respray at the least...
It does have some good parts that some people might find useful so I'm going to strip it down and then send the body on its way. Unless someone has any better ideas. I'd hate to just dump it off a bridge though...
So if there's anything you want, ask about it in this thread and I'll tell you the condition, etc.
I have a set of new valve cover gaskets, a new oil filter, air filter with 1 mile on it, rotor and cap with <50 miles on them, wood shift knob, 5 chrome rims with crappy but treaded tires, nice dash, nice wood, Becker works but maybe not the tape part of it, working antenna mast, working central locking actuators, kinda crappy seats, some kind of technical manual, all working switches, trim, bumpers, etc... The transmission shifts nice and smooth but the torque converter is a bit noisy sometimes while warming up at idle. I'm willing to pull the driveline parts (axles, differential, tranny, driveshaft) or anything except the engine--if you actually want that for some reason you'll have to get it yourself or send someone to do it. I'll pull parts off the engine. Fuel distributor works great since engine runs great.
you know I would just drive it till it quits at the least..you said it runs fine.. why not...no money into it any more just drive..Unless you have a good black center console..Jeff
1) Well I need a Burl ash tray and the burl shift area and the heater area pieces. But around the shifter I need the whole piece that the wood mounts to also. So you could leave the burl wood attached to it.
2) If you have a euro bumper with or with out the bumperettes I need the rubber strips front and back.
3) If you have euro head lights I need the lens covers.
4) I could use the 450 distributor as a spare
5) Ahh

Ah that magic feeling of being post mortgage and zero debt. (between repairs)
reading some of your other posts in other threads, it looks like your after a 026...
why not convert to a rally car and sell off your unneeded parts..
i know it is not the real thing, but you would have something close untill one comes along...

I'll take a pic of the entire shifter area and post it but it might not be til the end of the month. I'm picking the car up from the shop tomorrow and leaving for Madeira on Saturday night. But if it looks good to you, PM me a price. I guess you don't need a picture of the distributor, but like I said, the cap and rotor are new. I could just pull the whole thing as a unit.
