I've read about a suspension recall

that seems to have been around for some time. Does anyone know if this applies to a '72 107, and if so, will MBNA perform the recall on a euro car?

General consensus says no unless a particular dealership is willing to go above and beyond in talking with MBNA. Run a search for subframe, recall, etc. There are several threads with pics of failed subframes, dealer gusset repaired subframes, and upgrade reinforced subframes. The actual reair/upgrade involves the lower control arm to subframe mounting brackets.

The gusset kits for the welded reinforcement is dealer available for around 90.00US I do believe.

First thing I'd do is go to your local dealership and ask if the recall is still open on your car - it may have already been fixed.

There are photos of subframes with and without the gussets. I'm guessing if M-B hasn't already fixed it, and won't, you've got the skills to do it yourself and prevent a possible failure.

I have a sneaking suspicion you will become extremely familiar with the front and rear subframe. When you do, a close inspection will reveal any damage or repair.
The suspension rubber is often the most neglected, therefore the most rewarding.
Hope you don't need a sawzall.

All, I just recieved a check from MB for the entire work done on my 78 107 gray market. Initially MB balked at the gray market, but after many, many calls they relented and admitted that the recall was indeed a worldwide recall, and the work needs to be done no matter where the car is originally from. At first they said no way, so I had the work done independently to a cost of roughly $2500. Then out of the blue MB USA called me back. Apparently someone higher up saw the request and they told me they would cover it. I told them it was already done and they had me take the car to my local MB dealer to have it inspected. They approved the work and MB made good on their word. They paid ALL parts AND labor. It did take a lot of work, but they did relent in the end. They said this recall would never expire and they had to honor it world-wide as it is a very liable fault in design. PM me if you want names, number etc.

Glad to hear that they did the right thing. I'm sure there are a few folks around here that might finally decide to get their rides squared away.

ABQ, I've taken the liberty of quoting this good news to the 'Interesting Links' sticky. I included a list of keywords to make searches more effective.

I had this done on my car under recall b/c the stupid thing had the tiniest hairline crack. Went to mercedes and after they were able to figure out what type of car(euro model) they said they did the work. I had them do some other thing also which ran up the bill to 1300$, and they threw in a needed alignment and washing.

I would be under the impression that if your car is subject to the recall and hasn't been fixed mercedes is UNDER obligation to repair the car as a public safety issue. If they give you any crap say that you are going to contact the NHTSA with the recall information and have them mitigate. Mercedes is obligated to fix the car if it is a recall. Same goes for any other car/motorcycle. I thought I'd get free parts for the buell under recall , a drive belt is like 100$, but some responsable schmuck had the thing fixed before I got my paws on it.
