I have a 79 450sl that seems to have a hard time starting. I really have to step on the pedal to get her to fire. I understand this car is fuel injected, but is this a common problem? Once it gets started there are no real issues (as long as it gets a few minutes to warm up) The car never has a problem turning over, just seems odd to me that I have to step down on the gas really hard.
Also, sometimes when the car is running there is (for lack of a better description) a clicking noise coming from under the dash in the passenger side of the car, is this normal or is it something that should be looked into?
It's a common enough problem, but it should not be happening. The car should start in under a second's cranking.
Most likely cause is a bad warm-up regulator causing high control pressure. You might also be losing fuel pressure due to a bad accumulator or fuel pump check valve.
