I have an older gentleman friend who has been stricken recently with Cancer. He is undergoing treatments, and the prognosis for success is favorable at this time; however, the regiment is taxing on his physical and mental health. One of his last joys at this time in his life is to go for a drive (or ride, if he is not able to drive on a particular day) in his '78 450SL. Aye, here is the rub. He tells me that his climate control servo is kaput (housing leaking). When he called me for advice, I hated to tell him his options were limited and expensive (at least more than he needs to be burdened with at this time). He was disappointed and realizes he does not need to spend that kinda change with what he is going thru. I informed him I'd research for him and report back. Now, I know replacements run the gamut from $600US for a digital repacement system to $5-600 rebuilt to $1400 etc...
Now's where I extend a request from any benevolent 107 owner of this vintage with a huge heart... Should someone have a servicable unit lying around that they would part with to help an older 107 owner, I'd gladly install for my friend. I will explore other options, but thought I'd throw it up here for you good-hearted folk to search your parts boxes... Please don't mis-understand... He is not looking for a freebie here (nor am I).
Thanks...

Keep in mind that if his servo is gone, his amplifier is likely also shot. They should always be replaced in pairs. A bad servo will take out the amp and vice versa.
Alternate to the (long-shot) chance that someone has a working servo just lying around, I wouldn't be averse to contributing to a "Get the sickie a servo" fund. 'Tis the season, and all that.

I would think we would all do what needs to be done. Just let us know what that is. One of my dementia stricken dad's fondest memories is riding in the 380, top down, on PCH in Laguna. Forever in his mind. Prayers for them both.

I'm in for $50.
Just tell me where to send it.
All the best to your friend, Ears.
I can do this also.
I have a broken servo if you need parts for one that can be fixed or if someone has a housing that is still good, I will try to rebuild this one. Not that complexed inside.

How 'bout we skip Ears (who probably wouldn't speak up for this) and contact Ron at Germanstar? He might even be moved to lower the prices a bit, under the circumstances, and could keep us posted on how much more he needs to ship it out. I'm sure he has Ears' shipping address somewhere.
I just checked and a servo is listed at $465, an amp at $129. So far we have commitments for $200 (counting $50 from me). Ron also has the ability to run credit cards, making it much easier to donate than mailing a check somewhere, if his contract lets him do this.
So what do we do call germanstar or what? Should we just mention for Ear's friend.
PS I'm in for $50.
The big C killed both my parents.
I PM Ron about this I guess now we wait.
